For my early morning walk, I drove down to the marina and hiked around the lake shore area. To get those great pictures of the Teton’s you have to get the early morning sun. Its cold – just 44 degrees! After a light breakfast from our cooler, first stops on this beautiful sunny morning were the park Visitor Center, Gift Shop and General Store.
We then embarked on a great 3 mile hike along the lake and
then to Herron Pond and Swan Lake. It was so quiet! Not a breath of wind, no
animal sounds, few people. The trail was mostly flat and we had some great
views. Interestingly, these two ponds were nearly choked with lilly pads. Again, no wildlife, not even a bear! We did
see a Bald Eagle fly overhead.
Upon returning from our hike we went over to the general
store and had a bowl of ice cream for lunch!
After freshening up a bit, we drove down to the Signal
Mountain drive which took us to 7700 feet and offered great views. It’s so
clear! (There are no fires around which makes all the difference).
Back down to the main road we stopped to check out the
Jackson Lake Dam. Did you know the headwaters of the Snake River is right here?
For dinner we got a full size pizza from John Colter’s and
had planned to take it down to the picnic area, eat, then read our books for a
while, looking at the view. Alas, the area was closed due to “bear activity”,
apparently a common occurrence! So instead we set up under the shade of a pine
tree across from the marina. Perfect spot!
Tomorrow we leave Tetons and head for Logan, Utah. We plan
to stop near Alpine, WY and have lunch with our old friend Michela.
We feel we got a good taste of Teton Park now. Favorite
activities seem to be hiking and camping. Lost of activity in the marina, too.
It sure is spectacular….when the weather is nice!
