Another sunny day but its getting hot! By the time we reached Logan it would be 100! The reason we picked this route for our final day was that we'd always wanted to drive Rt 89 down the Logan Canyon Scenic Highway.
The Tetons were spectacular as we left. The surface of Jackson Lake was like glass, providing some interesting photo ops with the reflections of the mountains. The park was really crowded this morning, the parking lots at the popular trailheads were packed. We stopped at the Visitor Center on the way out of the park.
At Jackson, we headed south on Rt 89, driving through canyons following the Snake River. Popular place for rafting! At Alpine, we entered the long Star Valley. Lots of agriculture but not a very attractive area. . We met Michela at Star Valley Ranch, up on the eastern slopes, which featured golf courses and lots of new home construction. Scappy little towns of Thayne and Afton did not impress.
We crossed into Idaho, past the historic LDS Tabernacle in Preston, and came to beautiful Bear Lake. Then up into the mountains on the Logan Canyon road, reaching a summit of about 7800 feet. Came across an unusually large band of sheep all over the road. You leave the canyon and immediately come to the Utah State campus.
Dinner tonight at Denny's, stay at Comfort Inn. Home tomorrow.
